ACADEMICS

Isolating the student from large sections of human knowledge is not the basis of a Christian education. Rather it is GIVING HIM OR HER THE FRAMEWORK FOR TOTAL TRUTH, rooted in the creator’s existence and in the bible’s teaching so that in each step of the formal learning process the student will understand what is true and what is false and why it is true or false.

THE CENTURION PHILOSOPHY

  • A CHRISTIAN VIEW OF REALITY

At Centurion, we believe the whole focus of education is God. God is the creator of everyone and everything. The very definition of a creator God is that He creates and sustains all things, otherwise he would not be God, but a disconnected first mover, so not the God of the Bible. Since the first line of the bible is “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…” (Genesis 1:1); anything we pursue with our minds and any work we carry out with our hands is to know what He has made and to glorify what He has given and to enjoy what he provides.

  • A CHRISTIAN VIEW OF KNOWLEDGE

The greatest gift to man’s understanding is that he is not the end, but God is both the beginning and the end. Christianity is a revealed faith and the triune God of Christianity is the self-referential creator of all knowledge. Therefore, the more we discover, the more we see ourselves as so important, but God as infinitely important. Romas 14:8 says, “For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s”

  • A CHRISTIAN VIEW OF ETHICS

What is the standard of right and wrong? This is one of the big questions of life. Moral virtue has been a component of philosophy for centuries, but the Bible claims that God is not just a creator and sovereign, but he has a perfect nature and attributes that reflect that nature. For the Christian, the moral standard to live by is dictated by God and God alone who is the only truly good being in existence. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2 ESV
